Hematite is an iron oxide crystal and an important ore of iron. It is part of the trigonal crystal system and is often found in rocks and soil. Hematite has a metallic like luster and colors that range from black to grey and silver, along with more reddish-brown varieties
Amethyst is the purple variety of Quartz. It contains iron and other trace minerals within its structure. Its hardness is a 7 on the Mohs scale. Amethyst can be found all over the world. With some of the most precious deposits being in Greece, Italy, the Middle East, Brazil, Uruguay, and North Africa.
When heated, Amethyst can change its color to yellow. These heat treated Amethyst stones are the most commonly sold imitation of Citrine.
