The color of Hematoid Quartz can range from a pale yellow to a deeper red and be anywhere from translucent to opaque. Its striking color is due to the presence of iron and is that mineral that determines the depth of the color.

The red variety is sometimes called Fire Quartz because of the flame like shape of its hematite inclusions while the yellow variety is also known as Golden Healer Quartz.
