Scientific Facts
Fluorite is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. It is a 4 on the Mohs harness scale, making it a rather soft stone. It works well for gently handled jewelry such as necklaces and earrings but will scratch through heavy wear and tear, which is why it is rarely used for rings.
The phenomenon of fluorescence gets its name from the glow this mineral emits when held under certain angles of UV light.
