Honey quartz is another name for yellow quartz, in this case Hematoid Quartz. As the name suggests, it is a quartz crystal with hematite inclusions or impurities. It has a hardness of 7 Mohs and is generally very durable. The color of Hematoid Quartz can range from a pale yellow to a deeper red and be anywhere from translucent to opaque. Its striking color is due to the presence of iron and is that mineral that determines the depth of the color.

In cases where the hematite is not included within the quartz but instead layered on top of it, the hematite can maintain its black metallic coloration while the quartz remains colorless and translucent.

The red variety is sometimes called Fire Quartz because of the flame like shape of its hematite inclusions while the yellow variety is also known as Golden Healer Quartz.
