Scientific Facts
Moonstone is composed of Orthoclase and Albite, two species from the Feldspar group. Its coloration reaches from colorless, white, through shades of yellow, gray, green, pink, reddish, orange, and brown. It can be anywhere from opaque to clear and has a vitreous luster which can be colorless or include blue hues.
Different stones frequently mislabeled as "Moonstone" include Opalite (a man made glass) and Labradorite.
While Myanmar was historically the largest source of fine high quality moonstone, the stone can be found all over the world, including in the United States, Australia, India, and Northern Europe.
Moonstone represents calm emotions, inner clarity, cyclical change, and a connection to the feminine. It is a symbol of light and hope and also encourages us to embrace new beginnings. It is closely linked to themes of femininity such as fertility, balance, softness, and intuition.
